Art is about vision:
to see life in a way that others do not,
to express oneself through imagery and emotion,
to make a connection with the viewer;
sometimes through the subconscious with color, textures, mark-making and technique.
Picture
I work in a wide range of media. I love to explore and experiment with different surfaces as well. My newest explorations are on steel with images created from patinas, etching, and oil glazes.

The work to the left is entitled Brooch of Strength. It is a work that was included in my Master of Fine Art Exhibit held in August of 2012. It measures 42x42 inches. This work is patina, etching, and oil on steel. The face portrayed in the middle of this work is my grandmother. She was one of the strongest women I know and I feel she has left her legacy for her grandchildren both genetically, physically, and psychologically. The image is broken up by the circles that are welded together. The shape is much like a brooch but on a much larger scale; reminiscent of Pop Artist, Clause Oldenburg. Though our lives can many times be disassembled by people and events that occur in our lives we can be strong survivors and put ourselves back together in sometimes a more beautiful light. The scars of our lives give us character, wisdom, and often make us more courageous.

You can see this work at diio Contemporary Art Gallery in Amarillo Texas, 3701 Plains Boulevard. The gallery is always open the first Friday of the month from 6-9 pm for the Art Walk, or you can make an appointment with myself (806)-881-9327 or Cale Rogers
(806) 467-1596.

Oil

I love to paint in oil using rich color. Texture is usually an integral part of my painting technique. The painting above is titled In the Depths it measures 30 x 40 inches and is framed in steel. This particular painting is in a private collections of its owner.

Watercolor

Watercolor was my first love in painting. I love using vibrant colors that often complement each other. This particular painting was painted onsite in Palo Duro Canyon in the exact location where Georgia O'Keeffe once painted. This watercolor is on canvas and measures 24 x 36 inches, and is framed in wood.

Mixed Media

 Experimentation with a variety of media helps me to keep my work fresh. This painting is a mixture of graphite, colored pencil, and watercolor. I have many pieces that incorporate both water media and oil along with other unexpected combinations. This work measures 22 x 30 inches and is matted and framed in black with glass.
